Let them be children.
JAC started with my son Jesse's initials. Those same letters became Just A Child, and that's really the heart of this brand.
I became a mother later in life, and I want so much for my son. I want him to see the world, experience different cultures, try new things, and discover what he loves. I want him to have opportunities and know that there are so many possibilities for his life.
But I also want him to enjoy being a child.
There is plenty of time for work, responsibility, and figuring everything out. Right now, I want him to play, be silly, sing, dance, get dirty, and use his imagination. Try a sport. Be in a play. Find something he likes, then change his mind. He's allowed to do that. He's still learning who he is.
As a Black mother raising a Black son, protecting his childhood matters to me. I want him to feel safe, loved, and free to be his age. I want his memories to be full of joy, family, adventure, and knowing that he was taken care of.
That's where JAC comes from. I wanted to create clothing that celebrates children and all the personality they bring with them. The gentle ones. The brave ones. The silly ones. The ones who want to do everything with their best friend.
This started with my child, but there is room here for yours, too.
